BT's Fast Broadband Network: BT is thought to be expanding superfast broadband to millions of households in the UK. According to the Financial Times, it is expected to extend its fibre network from 40 percent to 66 percent in the UK homes. This plan is expected to raise the cost of infrastructure beyond the existing budget of £1.5 billion. BT made a £1.6 billion loss in 2009 due to write-downs in the value of its IT business. BT Global Services had over-optimistic assumptions about the profitability of some of its contracts such as deals with the NHS and Reuters, which prompted BT to take large care against its profit in 2008-09. Recently the telegraph reported that BT will place an increased focus on improving profits at the global services division.
