Orange has announced that they have agreed a new deal to supply Derby City Council with hundreds of BlackBerry devices. The network operator revealed that they will help Derby City Council to save an estimated £200,000 per year by being appointed as its sole mobile communications operator. Orange will provide its Wirefree Extension and 1,500 voice connections to the council, as well as BlackBerry mobile phones, which will enable reduced-rate calls to remain connected to the internet and emails when they are out of the office. Positive Relationship with DCC Orange offers three BlackBerry handsets - the Bold 9700, Curve 8520 and Curve 8900 - although it has not decided which of the smartphones it will deliver to the council. Councillor Mike Carr, from Derby City Council said, "We selected Orange as it was the only operator involved in the process that demonstrated that it could deliver against all of our requirements and allow us to make significant savings." Robert Ainger, director of corporate marketing for Orange UK said, "We have built a positive relationship with DCC and we look forward to continuing working closely with the team there to help make continued efficiencies and improve their delivery of services."
