Nokia and Apple have emerged as the winners in the last quarter of 2009 due the latest boost up in the mobile phone market. With the smart phone segment getting more and more competitive, the consumers are offered more choice and better value for money with every upgraded version. In 2009, Apple has set a new record by selling 8.7 million iPhones and for both Nokia and Apple, the growth in the unit sales has been around 17 percent in the last quarter of the year. Nokia has finally made a comeback in its smart phone segment after the initial setback caused by the arrival of iPhones. According to Francisco Geronimo, research manager for European Mobile Device Significant Sale of Smartphones: The significant increase in the sale of smart phone reflects a satisfying growth in the overall mobile phone market in 2009 which is expected to continue in 2010 too. Companies like LG, Motorola, ZTE and others coming up with smart phones, mostly Android-based, the consumers would be able to make choice from a larger selection of smart phones. Sony Ericsson too holds high hopes for its first Android-based phone, the Xperia X10. As a result, the consumers can expect to see a cut down in the prices of smart phones in 2010, forecasted by IDC. However, the extent to which consumers will actually see those price cuts is not yet confirmed. Users can now enjoy maximum network coverage and more voice clarity with the latest features available in smart phones. These facilities are perfect whilst using smart phone to make cheap international calls. |
