Mobile Platform E-Government Services:

To expand the reach of e-government services amongst common people, the UK councils are now offering a dedicated mobile phone platform, My London Mobile (MyLoMo). The dotMobi domain on MyLoMo mobile platform and SNT Media Networks are being used by the three UK councils, Newham, Greenwich and Hackney to provide information on key services, such as, councillor contact details, weather, transport and NHS information. The UK citizens can avail the services by sending text message to the MyLoMo number 65101 after which they are replied back with a link to a related web portal.

Several Networks Join Mobile Service:

Ian Tomson-Smith, head of mobile strategy at SNT Media Networks said in his statement that the system is customised to suit this kind of use. He further said,” We built the system to recognise all phone types so that anyone with [an internet] connection on their phone, from small Nokia phones to high-end Android or iPhone devices, can see relevant content for their area." Citizens can pay for council services with their debit or credit cards using mobile phones through a service available on the portal. This service has been developed by partnering with a number of organisations, including the NHS, Google Maps, Twitter, Facebook, DirectGov and Transport for London that helps to enhance the scope of the services offered. Few other platforms will soon be built up to provide the same system within London.
